The 2016 European Chinese Teaching Seminar, co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute of the University of Nottingham and Macmillan Education, was successfully held at the main campus of the University of Nottingham from 1 July to 2 July 2016.The two-day European Seminar on Chinese Teaching, with the theme of "Meeting the Needs of Chinese Learners in the World", attracted the participation of Chinese teaching practitioners from various teaching positions.
As a result of the positive response received at the 2015 "Teaching Chinese in the West" seminar, Macmillan Education continued to hold the seminar this year in conjunction with The University of Nottingham.During the two-day conference, experts and scholars in the field of Chinese language teaching discussed how to meet the needs of Chinese learners in the Western learning environment, and how students in the local environment can maintain the enthusiasm and motivation of Chinese learning.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, Nick Miles, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, addressed the university.Mr. Nick Miles not only warmly welcomed all the participants, but also expressed his high appreciation and expectation for the meeting.It is worth mentioning that Mr. Nick Miles is particularly grateful to the Nottingham Kong Academy for its efforts in this teaching seminar, and from the facilities, personnel and organization planning, all participants have greatly praised Kong Academy in the local Chinese language teaching and the dissemination of Chinese culture, made outstanding contributions.
In the next two days, experts and scholars from universities in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and other countries gathered to discuss the teaching methods, educational techniques, different teaching elements, and even learners of different ages.
The conference had two main venue speeches, 18 workshops, and a closing panel discussion on "Opportunities and Challenges of Chinese Language Teaching", and the whole session was filled with heated discussions, useful exchanges, and the collision of teaching ideas.The exhibition platform of the Nottingham Kong Institute was also attracted by the participants, among which the night class information displayed by the staff of the Kong Institute, the HSK Chinese proficiency examination and the series of teaching materials, and the cultural series of the Kong Academy all attracted great interest from the participants.
